GLOSSARY
Deductible - the initial amount of medical and hospital expenses an individual must pay before his or her insurance carrier starts paying benefits.
Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG) - categories of illness that determine the amount of money paid to hospitals for the treatment of Medicare patients.
Dread Disease Insurance - insurance that pays benefits (subject to a maximum amount) for expenses incurred in connection with the treatment of specified diseases, such as cancer.
Duplication of Benefits (Multiple Coverage) - overlapping or identical coverage of the same person under two or more policies, usually as a result of contracts with different insurance companies, service organizations, or prepayment plans.
