GLOSSARY
UCR (Usual, Customary, and Reasonable) - a maximum payment allowed for a given medical service based on a statistical formula calculated by an insurance company to determine the amount it will pay on a given medical service.
Underwriter - a home office person who performs the underwriting process to accept or reject risks on behalf of the insurer. An agent is classified as a field underwriter and collects necessary data.
Underwriting - the process of evaluating a risk for the purpose of issuing insurance coverage.
Unearned Premium - that portion of a premium for which policy protection has not yet been given.
Urgent Care - a medically urgent situation requires prompt medical attention (usually within 24 hours) to prevent an illness or injury from becoming a serious medical problem. Urgent care is covered as other non-emergency care: it is subject to the plan deductible with a PPO plan, and must be received trough the Personal Physician with most of HMO plans, except when traveling.
